What is ...
PhoS (photography and the street) are free street photography colloquia! The PhoS events are taking place in various cities in the Balkans (Athens, Bucharest, Sofia ... ).
Walk the Talk.
The "Walk the Talk" workshops can be joined on a First-Come-First-Served basis and up to a max of 12-15 participants.
We at PHOS want to make the most out of your presence and consequently the theoretical part (unlike traditional workshops) will be kept to a minimum and focused on ad-hoc problems appearing and discussed during the practice. You will be encouraged to leave your comfort zone and try visual cues (geometry, juxtapositions, shadows, alternative POVs, abstraction, symbolism ...)
You will be coached to put visual order in the chaotic urban space, observe, wait and shoot, "steal" a fugitive moment, or even "conceive" a scene.
At the beginning or at the end of the 3-hour session you will have the opportunity to hear/discuss a brief overview of street photography and its masters (Andre Kertesz, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Garry Winogrand, Robert Frank etc).
All participants must have a digital camera, (eventually) a laptop with photo editing software and a USB key.
Portfolio Reviews.
Bring your photographs for an insightful evaluation. Portfolio reviews remain unparalleled as the best way to get your photography in front of industry experts, and the reviews at PHOS are among the most valuable.
Spend dedicated time with some of photography’s most highly respected and experienced experts. Scan the programme of any international photography festival and chances are organisers will be holding portfolio reviews.
Round Tables .
Round table is a form of academic discussion. Participants agree on a specific topic to discuss and debate. Each person is given equal right to participate, as illustrated by the idea of a circular layout referred to in the term round table.
Contests.
During the events are also organised international photography contests. Meet some of the finalists and winners of the previous editions in our Facebook pages.
The contests have no entry fees whatsoever and you can find information about the juries and the criteria of previous editions by visiting the relevant media exposure page.
